Walt B. Sikora: Laboratory Technician/Insect Taxonomy

Overview:

Walt is the Laboratory Technician/Insect Taxonomy at the Bugwood Network. Sikora has a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Entomology and Master’s of Science Degree from the University of Georgia. He also has a Ph.D. in Marine Science from the University of South Carolina. He has always had a lifelong interest in insects as well as other invertebrates. During most of his professional career, he has been engaged in coastal estuarine research, specializing in the ecology of the benthos, the organisms living in and on the bottom sediments of salt marshes, creeks and bays in coastal Louisiana. Walt’s duties at CISEH include verifying the genus and species nomenclature of Bugwood insect images entries, making sure the names are up to date with the most recent taxonomic revisions including the assigned subfamily and tribe.

He conducts this taxonomic work in Athens, GA, at The Georgia Museum of Natural History where he is a museum associate.
