Giant Sequoia Sequoiadendron giganteum is a species of conifer native to the central Sierra Nevada in California. It is the sole species in its genus.
It is a very large evergreen coniferous tree growing to 50-95 m tall. Formerly placed in the family Taxodiaceae, it is now classified in the cypress family Cupressaceae.
It is widely grown as an ornamental tree, and to a small extent for christmas trees, in North America and Europe.
