Conifers (class Pinophyta, syn. Coniferae) are a large group of about 650-700 species of Gymnosperm plants, native to most regions of the world. The class consists of a single order Pinales, and six or seven families. All are woody plants, and most are evergreen, though five genera are deciduous.
