Mission Statement

The Mission of The Bugwood Work Group is to gather, create, maintain, promote the use of, and economically distribute digital information both as resources and as tools to enhance and complement information exchange and educational activities primarily in the fields of entomology, plant pathology, forestry, forest health and natural resources. Our logo (four converging arrows) is located in the upper left hand corner of every page represents the coming together of various disciplines and technologies in working toward a common goal.

The Bugwood Network sites

“Bugwood” was originally created as a partnership between an Entomologist and a Forester at the University of Georgia. Overtime, it became the brand name associated with the many sites of the Bugwood Network. To date, 15 websites have been created from the image archive, providing quality images of plants, insects, diseases, and invasive species in the fields of forestry, agriculture, horticulture, arboriculture, and urban forestry We encourage you to join the Bugwood Network. Membership is free and provides access to the advanced features of the site. To find out more about this, see our homepage

Bugwood Interests and directions

The Bugwood Network will provide the leadership, expertise, and mechanisms necessary to accomplish our objectives in cooperation with public and private sector institutions and agencies. To this end, our objectives are:

The Acquisition and Creation of Original Materials

We endeavor to gather materials that exhibit value as either a resource or as an instructional asset relating to our areas of concentration. If the materials collected are found to be lacking in some respect, the existing materials may then be supplemented or replaced with materials of our own creation.

The Conversion of Materials to Consistent Formats

All materials that are added to our collection, whether previously in existence or of our own creation, will be converted into appropriate and consistent formats.

The Organization and Maintenance of the Collection

Each item within the collection will be cataloged and archived in such a way as to record that item's creator/author, a description of each item, and other information that may be relevant to the use of that item.

The Distribution of Materials

Materials will be distributed as components of orchestrated projects. Distribution will take place in such a way as to promote the development of new and innovative instructional tools using both traditional and electronic delivery techniques. Our primary focus is on information exchange and educational activities. Consequently, materials will be released on royalty-free basis whenever it is appropriate.
