Purpose
Aesculin utilization is diagnostic for Xanthomonas campestris, X. alnilineans, and X. axonopodis
Ingredients

| NH4H2PO4 | 0.25 g | 0.125 g |
| K2HPO4 | 0.25 g | 0.125 g |
| MgSO4 • 7H2O | 0.1 g | 0.05 g |
| NaC1 | 2.5 g | 1.25 g |
| Yeast Extract | 2.5 g | 1.25 g |
| Ferric ammonium citrate | 0.25 g | 0.125 g |
| Aesculin | 0.5 g | 0.25 g |
Instructions
- Development of a dark brown color in aesculin broth after shaker incubation for up to 28 days is regarded as an indication of aesculin utilization
- Complete hydrolysis can be assumed when no fluorescence is seen under UV light.
