As a biological control
A parasitic wasp, Metaphycus helvolus, is useful for managing black scale and hemispherical scale on interiorscape plants. The parasitic wasp, M. flavus, is an endoparasitoid of soft scales including brown scales. It practices ovicide and will destroy eggs of other wasps using its ovipositor.
