Purpose
Oatmeal Agar is used for cultivating fungi, particularly for macrospore formation.
Ingredients
| Ingredient | 1 L | 500 ml |
|---|---|---|
| Distilled water | 1000 ml | 500 ml |
| Rolled Oats | 30 g | 15 g |
| Agar | 15 g | 7.5 g |
Instructions
- Cook oatmeal in water for 15 – 30 minutes.
- Filter through three or four layers of cheesecloth and bring filtrate back to volume with water.
- Add agar. Autoclave to sterilize.
Notes
- To induce abundant sporangial formation in P. parasitica var. nicotianae:
- Transfer aerial mycelium from 15- to 20-day old cultures to a Petri dish containing enough 0.01 M KNO3 to wet the mycelium but not submerge it.
- Incubate 2-10 days at room temperature.
