Purpose

Used to test bacteria (or fungi) for cellulolytic activity.

Ingredients

Ingredient 1 L 500 ml
Part 1
Distilled water 1000 ml 500 ml
NH4H2PO4 1 g 0.5 g
KCl 0.2 g 0.1 g
MgSO4 • 7H2O 1 g 0.5 g
Yeast extract 1 g 0.5 g
Part 2
Carboxymethyl cellulose 26 g 13 g
Agar 3 g 1.5 g

Instructions

  1. Mix ingredients from part 1 and add ingredients from part 2 while stirring.
  2. Autoclave for 20 minutes
