The Bugwood Image Database System (BugwoodIDS)
The overall objective is to provide an accessible and easily used archive of high quality images with particular emphasis on educational applications. To accomplish this, the Bugwood Network Staff have created a dynamic system for classifying images. This classification scheme is then used to create interfaces to help users find what they need as quickly as possible.
Originally, the site focused on forestry and silviculture, but as the site grew to include other pests not necessarily related to the forests, additional Bugwood Network sites were created.
In most cases, the images found in this system were taken by and loaned to us by others. Many are in the realm of public sector images. Images are in these systems to be used! All contributors to the site agree to allow of the use of their images by non-profit organizations for educational purposes at no cost. Commercial requests are also welcome but must be done through our Light Box and may involve royalty fees, dependent upon the wishes of the image creator/provider.
Through the development of our data entry procedures, we have strived ensure accurate identifications taxonomy and descriptions. We do, however, recognize that errors will occur and urge you, the user, to be the final quality control option. If you find errors please notify us of them so that we can correct. You can send us a general e-mail or contact a particular member of our staff.
We encourage you to join the Bugwood Network. Membership is free and provides access to the advanced features of the site.
